Frequently Asked Questions
Browse common questions to learn more about poly products, fabrication, and accessories, and how these solutions support operations.
What are poly products and where are they used?
Poly products typically refer to polyethylene (PE) piping systems and fittings—HDPE, MDPE and LDPE. They’re widely used for water transfer, dewatering, tailings and irrigation because they’re tough, abrasion-resistant and chemically resistant. With UV-stabilised grades, they suit above-ground and buried service, typically from about −40°C to ~60°C, depending on formulation.
What is the difference between buttweld and electrofusion fittings?
Buttweld fittings fuse heated pipe ends directly, creating a seamless joint. Electrofusion fittings use embedded coils to melt and bond the pipe. Both methods deliver strong, reliable joints, with the choice depending on pipe size, site conditions, and installation requirements.
How do backing rings improve the performance of poly piping systems?
Backing rings add support at joint connections, distributing stress evenly to reduce leaks and improve system stability. They also allow secure bolted connections, enabling easy dismantling and reassembly of piping during maintenance or system modifications.
